Does Your Commercial General Liability Cover Drones?

Drones are taking the business industry by storm. Drones have a lot of applications when it comes to business, regardless of the industry. If you are using drones, a priority must be to reduce the business risks associated with using them. One way to do so is by using business insurance.

Are Drones Covered By General Business Insurance?

You usually can’t rely on general liability insurance to protect your business from perils involving drones. You also can't rely on it to repair or replace your drone if it’s damaged. Your commercial general liability coverage usually includes an exclusion that prohibits aviation coverage. In many cases, the exclusion will apply to drones, too.

What Type of Insurance Do You Need for Drones?

If your business has drones, you’ll need drone insurance or another type of specialty insurance that covers aviation.

Drone insurance is a new type of coverage. It’s imperative that you read the details of your policy to ensure you aren’t violating its provisions. If you damage your drone in a way that’s not covered by your policy, you may be able to get your drone repaired or replaced.

Additionally, it’s essential that you get enough insurance. No one knows all the risks associated with driving a drone. And, no one knows how the courts will respond when it comes to penalties. Therefore, it’s important that you are safe and prepared. A high coverage level will help you truly safeguard your risk.

Get Trained

Another important factor about manning a drone is training. Your insurance coverage may require you to have training. It may require that you renew your training every so often. If this is the case, then it’s important that you find a training program that meets your insurance standards before you begin.

Drones are a great way for a business to save money and improve efficiencies. However, businesses that employ drones must have business insurance to cover the risks.

FSB Insurance / C&T Insurance can help you get the coverage you need to protect your business assets. Get in touch with us at (731) 668-9312 for more information.
